What is RB Link?

RB Link is Royal Brunei Airlines’ Regional Service within Borneo; connecting you with ease across Borneo and linking 5 new destinations (in addition to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching) to our global network on a 72 seat all-economy turbo prop aircraft. Flights will be operated by Malindo Air.

Why is Royal Brunei flying these regional routes?

Royal Brunei Airlines wishes to offer a convenient travel experience with hassle free transit at Brunei International Airport to these new destinations, which are currently under-served by air services in the region.

Who is ATR and what is an ATR like?

Established in November 1981, ATR is a joint partnership between two major European aeronautics players, Airbus and Leonardo. ATR has sold nearly 1,700 aircraft and has over 200 operators in more than 100 countries. ATR turboprops provide airlines with the best opportunities for operating short-haul routes and smaller markets connecting regional airports and hubs.

What aircraft will be used for RB Link flights (RB's Regional Service)?

New ATR72-600 aircrafts will be used for all routes with RB Link (RB’s Regional Service). The ATR72-600 is a 72 seat all-economy cabin. These flights will be operated by Malindo Air.

Which routes will RB be using an ATR and for how long?

RB will be flying to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching using the new ATR72-600 then is planning to initially link Balikpapan in Indonesia to the RB network, followed by an intended four new Malaysian destinations such as Tawau, Sandakan, Sibu and Bintulu subject to government approvals.

Who is operating RB Link (Regional Service) ATR flights?

Malindo Air flight crew (pilots and cabin crew) will be operating these flights on behalf of Royal Brunei Airlines. Our guests will have the same warm RB welcome.

Are there Business and Economy Class cabins on the ATR?

The aircraft used for RB Link (RB’s Regional Service), ATR72-600, are an Economy only aircraft.

What happens if I have purchased a Business Class ticket to Kota Kinabalu or Kuching before 17 July 2019 for traveling after 17 July 2019?

The ATR is an all-economy aircraft. If you have purchased a Business Class ticket, you will be re-allocated to one of our Preferred Seats, which are on the 3 rows nearest to the door for priority boarding and disembarkation. You will be refunded the fare difference (if any), excluding bank charges.

Are there any changes to flight schedules?

There will be slight changes to the schedule for Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Refer to Flight Timetable to view our latest schedule.

Will there be refreshments and is the food halal?

Royal Brunei Airlines operate a halal flight. A drink will be served on all RB Link flights and a snack will be served for flights within Borneo longer than one hour.

Is my Bassinet seat booking affected for flights that have been changed to an ATR?

Yes, the ATR does not have any baby bassinets available onboard. Please contact your nearest Royal Brunei Airlines office to transfer your seat onto Preferred Seats, subject to availability.

Is my Preferred Seat booking affected for flights that have changed to an ATR?

Yes. Royal Brunei Airlines will re-allocate your Preferred Seat(s) to a similar seat on the ATR towards the rear of the aircraft that has additional leg room. If we are unable to re-allocate you to a similar seat, you will be refunded, excluding bank charges.

I have selected my seat in advance and have paid a fee. What happens to my seat and fee paid, now that the aircraft has changed?

Royal Brunei Airlines will re-allocate your seat(s) to a similar seat on the ATR.

Can I purchase a Preferred Seat on RB Link flights?

Yes. Preferred Seats on RB Link flights are located at the first row of the aircraft (emergency exit seats) and last 3 rows from the rear of the aircraft. Please note that the purchase of emergency exit seats are subjected to strict flight safety guidelines by Department of Civil Aviation Brunei. Guests who do not meet the guidelines will be reassigned, without refunding the fee paid.

Why are Preferred Seats located at the rear of the aircraft?

Aircraft exit and entry for RB Link flights is located at the rear of the aircraft. Preferred Seats guests will enjoy priority boarding and disembarkment.

What products and services can be expected on RB Link flights?

Guest onboard will enjoy RB’s signature service, a drink and snack (for flights over one hour), Muhibah In-Flight Magazine and are able to use their personal electronic devices for entertainment.

I have pre-purchased extra baggage allowance. Will my purchase be affected?

No, it will not be affected.

What is the baggage allowance for RB Link flights?

Baggage allowance for each guest is 15kgs, whilst international transit guests will be in line with the international sectors baggage allowance.

For example:
Scenario 1:

You are traveling from any of our RB Link destinations to Brunei.
Flight journey: Kota Kinabalu > Brunei > Kota Kinabalu

Your baggage allowance is 15kgs per guest

Scenario 2:

You are traveling from any of our RB Link destinations onwards to any of RB’s destinations beyond Brunei.
Flight journey: Kota Kinabalu to Melbourne (via Brunei) and returning to Kota Kinabalu (via Brunei)

Your baggage allowance will be from 20kgs per guest for the entire journey, in accordance to the class of travel.

I purchased my ticket to Kota Kinabalu or Kuching before 17 July 2019 for travelling after 17 July 2019. Will my baggage allowance be changed to 15kgs?

If you have purchased your ticket to Kota Kinabalu or Kuching before 17 July 2019, your baggage allowance will remain as 30kgs. Tickets purchased on or after 17 July 2019 will have a 15kgs baggage allowance.

Does the seat have a power supply and/or in-flight entertainment system?

No, RB Link flights on ATR do not have in-seat power supply and in-flight entertainment system.

Am I still eligible for Royal Skies mileage accrual?

Yes, Royal Skies eligibility is not affected and remains unchanged.

Will there be a travel prayer broadcasted before the flight?

Yes, there are onboard travel prayers.

I have not been contact by Royal Brunei Airlines regarding the change in my flight. What should I do?

Please contact your local Royal Brunei Airlines office.

I am travelling with someone who requires special assistance. What should I do?

As access to our aircraft for RB Link flights is by boarding stairs, the carriage of guests with limited mobility is subject to whether they are able to climb the boarding stairs aided or unaided.

RB regrets that we are unable to accept the carriage of guests who are completely immobile and/or unable to climb the boarding stairs unaided including, but not limited to, guests who require constant medical attention onboard and wheelchair guests.

Please contact your nearest Royal Brunei Airlines office should you require other special assistance.

Now that the aircraft has changed to an ATR, I am not willing to fly with Royal Brunei Airlines anymore. Can I get a refund?

Yes. Please contact your local Royal Brunei Airlines office to process a refund. Please note that the standard refund policy applies with a refund fee based on your booking class.

My flight to Kota Kinabalu or Kuching has been changed to an RB Link flight. I would like a refund of the fare difference.

Guests can expect the same Royal Brunei Airlines hospitality and standard of service on all RB Link flights. As such, no compensation of fare difference will be processed.
